Fig: 1 — Several events throughout the years have led us to this point that now lives are intricately meshed with the digital innovations of present times.

The digital space

The world is undergoing one of the most dramatic transformations in history with digitization. It is a major milestone that will make a mark in history as the moment where we re-evaluate the way we interact with our surroundings.

Digitization has created a parallel world that exists rooted in reality, where people experience completely distinct scenarios. The digital world which previously only existed on screens can now be entered into, with the advent of virtual reality technology. It gives us the ability to exist and move through the digital spaces created.

With the emergence of virtual reality technology, digital media can now be explored in a whole new dimension as opposed to the time when they only existed in an electronic sense. This shift from a two-dimensional format to a three-dimensional virtual reality has created a demand for engaging and enriching online experiences.

Are these digital spaces as well-designed as the physical settings belonging to the real world?

New virtual retail realities

The digital world is now serviced by infrastructure and virtual goods as society advances in the future. The market is flooded with cryptocurrency and this form of digital payment is being used to avail these services. Online communities and companies exist that monitor the selling and buying of digital products from the platform.

Online retail stores are sites for such products and this trend is picking up in today’s times. There is news every day that exclusive versions of virtual products are being sold at extremely high rates on digital platforms (see digital Gucci bag sale) Many fashion brands are using creative virtual platforms for selling digitized versions of their items and generating buzz around their businesses.

The online settings designed for these previews and sales are carefully curated to appease buyers. These virtual spaces are dreamy, utopian destinations that are capable of transporting people to otherworldly destinations. There are no bounds or practical chains for designers, who are encouraged to explore atypical designs.

Brief of the Competition

The model of virtual stores can be visualized for the benefit of digital artists and promotion of their work and prowess in both the virtual and real world.

Brief: The challenge is to design a utopian version of an exhibition space that can be used by digital content creators to display their artwork.

The design will be a digital rendering of the designed space. It need not be completely possible, but rather exuberate fantasy and creative imagination. The participants must elaborate the idea as a fictional narrative rather than a proposal. The parallel universe can be inspired by the works of digital content creators all over the world.

The digital exhibition space must be restricted to a volume of 120 sq.m. The nature of spaces can be delegated by the participants but the justification of selected themes is essential. The amenities in the space rendering will be similar to exhibition spaces in reality such as seating arrangements, display cases for art, and so on.
